Homework
Blue School-to-Home Folder:
All homework assignments will be sent home in your child’s blue school-to-home folder. Students are responsible for packing papers into their folder at dismissal. They are also responsible for checking their folder each morning and turning in completed homework assignments/paperwork/notes. If you notice that your child is not turning in their completed homework, please contact me so I can give them extra support with learning this new routine.
Reading Homework:
Starting next Friday, September 14th, I will be sending weekly reading homework. Students are expected to read with an adult for 20 minutes each night and choose a question to write about what they have read. A parent/guardian needs to sign the log and completed logs should be turned in at the end of each week (usually Fridays). Students will be rewarded when they complete their weekly homework.
Math Homework:
Math homework does not follow a regular schedule, but is usually sent home 1-2 times a week. The assignment(s) may be sent home on different days of the week after the skill is taught in class. All math homework should be turned in at the end of each week (usually Fridays).
General Homework Information:
Homework assignments (writing about their reading and math homework) should take 2nd grade students a maximum of 20 minutes each night. Students should also be reading for an additional 20 minutes each night. If your child struggles with an assignment or is unable to finish it, please write a note on the assignment. Please contact me if your child is frequently having difficulty completing their homework within the recommended maximum time of 20 minutes.
If a student does not complete a homework assignment, they will need to make up that assignment instead of participating in Fun Friday activities. Please encourage your child to be responsible for his/her homework by reminding them to complete homework each day and to pack their completed homework each night.
By supporting your child with their homework, you are helping them to be successful in school. Your involvement in your child’s education is very important. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at school by phone (692-2435), email ([email protected]), or send a note in their blue school-to-home folder. Thank you for supporting your child’s learning at home!
